The board voted last night on the 8 million in budget cuts for the Tier III
items. Here's the article in today's West County Times.
They tabled the votes on Items F5 - classroom size reductions and F6 -
Classified employees layoffs. A special meeting was scheduled for Monday
April 6, 2009 to vote on these two items.
The board said they are trying to protect music and secondary electives by
making these cuts but how realistic is it to think that kids are going to
start playing instruments in 7th grade. The 7th graders at Portola right
now have been playing instruments for 4 years already. This is going to
hurt our secondary programs as well. So sad.
