This happened at 7:03PM on 10-24-03. I know the time because I was waiting for PBS Radio to come on with Fresh Air. As I turned off Clow Corner Road and onto the highway going to Monmouth/Independence I had [been] driving maybe a mile. I saw what looked to be a very large star. I could not see the outline or any shape. I drove about another mile and the light changed to like your looking at a diamond side view. It was still lit up but not so bright as before. As I glanced up a few times the color changed different shades of blue but not shiny. After it changed maybe 5 or 6 shades it turned white but not shiny. As it turned white the light strobed about 10 times and then went out. As I passed I saw 2 other cars sitting by the side of the road. I don't know if they were watching it or not. As I drove home about 2 miles away I kept looking for the light but never saw it again.
I don't know if I want my last name used. The last time I asked a question on a UFO web page I got a few crank calls
This area up to McMinnville is known for seeing odd things. That city is north. What I saw was in the southwest. I would say about 44 to 55 degrees. I could not tell how far away it was. I could guess a mile or a thousand miles. It seemed if I had to guess from how clear it was I would say 8 to 10 and to me that would be a very big light.
This area has a small private airport. We are used to seeing air planes at night. The population of the town I live in is spread out over a large country side about 9,000.
