I always thought pole barns were exempt from codes or...at least the same standards as conventional structures. Of course this depends on zoning, setbacks and subdivision covenants/restrictions.
One tip...in most cases subdivision restrictions expire typically no latter then 30 years from the date of original development...sometimes earlier.
I am having problems with the county Building Code Official in the state of Washington. After speaking with him I thought I had identified all of the code violations with the pole barn/residence which was on a piece of property I was interested in buying.
