Yeah, once you take the Oath of the Abyss, the World is your Toaster Oven.
But I have to say, we aren't just playing a game of Monopoly, picking random
objects (Top hat, thimble, racecar, old boot) to be our playing pieces. For
one thing, try invoking the watchtowers with a racecar -- you can't even go
deosil in an Indy car. But I digress.
The thing is, Air is the element of intellect, prinicipally the power of
discrimination. Discrimination requires taking things apart, making
distinctions, cutting things up and seeing each the particularity of each.
This is excellent work for a knife, but not so much for a stick (unless you
are Magister Templi Li Mu Bai). Look at the words we most commonly choose to
describe the operation of intellect -- keen, incisive, penetrating. A wand is
a blunt object unsuited for these things.
When the dagger is used to draw the circle, it is because the intention is to
cut off the space of working, to make it kadosh, holy. Kadosh literally
means "cut off," separated, distinct. It isn't about what kind of
ghoulish "astral fire" you're shooting out of your meat popsickle. In any
case, fire is in every way the enemy and destroyer of metal, as the Chinese
understood when they developed their system of five elements -- heating a
sharpened knife will make it weak and dull. It is the hammer of Earth gods
like Haephestus that brings metal to perfection, and this is among the
reasons that there is amity between the dagger and the disk.
The wand, of course, is wood, which is not fire per se, but the fuel of fire.
This is why, in its highest conception, the wand is hollow. It is the vehicle
of fire as the cup is the vehicle of water, and of wine, which is fire after
