I am on quite a few author's mailing lists as well as
book discussion groups. Some of the author lists are
"discussion" lists as well (like Kim's and Faith's)
and since the common question usually is what is
everyone reading in between book releases, people
mention what new books they are reading and/or there
are the just released books that the authors are
waiting to hear from. It is even more fun when the
authors for do their recommendations as i have picked
up quite a few new authors that way both fiction and
I also get them from amazon.com. Good examples are the
author lists for these recent books released: Marjorie
Liu's Eye of Heaven and Mary Janice Davidson's
Sleeping With The Fishes then i will be having the
same problem with Laurell K Hamilton's Mistrial's Kiss
that is due out on the 12th. Some people get the ARC'S
and with the author's blessing does the tease/spoilers
that make us all get into a real frenzy. I'm guilty of
the same when i get the few ARC's to do my reviews on
the booksellers sites as well as mailing lists and
boards so i can't complain...much.
I have to read the reviews since i sometimes go on
those on when to buy a book (a difference between the
"must have now" to "it can wait till i am out of
books"), but i get impatient when i know the books are
out and I'm in the "must have now" mode and i have no
car to get to them. I also use the reviews for if a
book is worth paying hardcover price or not if that
makes sense. I will by Saturday, but the agony of the
wait. I am using the time to reread DEAD WITCH WALKING
since it has been 2 years since i read it.
Other places i check are the romantic reviews since
the supernatural genre is big there. It just depends
on what type of book and i can usually direct a person
to a place with good reviews.
