Hi, Angela and everybody.
Yes, Pauline Kael has torn apart "Days of Heaven", but she wasn't much more tender neither with "Badlands". She didn't like the fact that Malick didn't give any explanantion to Kit and Holly's actions and that the two protagonists were kept at a distance and made impenetrable. Instead, I've read the reviews on "Badlands" written by Vicent Canby on The New York Times in 1973. He was much more farsighted. His reviews are appreciable even today.
I like Pauline Kael too, but many don't seem to, maybe *because* she's
personal. However, I seem to remember she didn't give a great review
to *Days of Heaven* so I'd say I like her with that exception.
I'm pretty hep to all things psychoanalytial, so as soon as I wrote
the "protest" of not having to answer to my mom, I realized it sounded
like a protest, but what the hey. I'd now like to protest that I don't
smoke the green stuff hardly at all, just in case I would lose
credibility with anyone here for being a pothead. I cannot afford to
smoke much; I'm already losing brain cells at a too-rapid rate with
the entrance to the delightful, sobering 40s.
But if I can provide fodder for analysis, that's fine by me!
