I had a thought about writing and the Delta Arts store that's opening Fri,
I was in the Delta Arts store that is now in the Delta Shopper's Mall, and
noticed that they didn't have anything promoting writing and local authors.
I got talking to the woman there, and she said they're having a grand
opening of the new centre on Fri, Sept 14.
I'm a lover of the written word, so I think it'd be great to do something so
that local writing and writers can promote their work in a shop that
promotes the local arts. I'd also love it if there were writing classes
added to the arts and crafts classes that are currently offered in Delta
Shopper's space (so close to me).
Oh, and I suddenly recall that the new Surrey Arts Centre is going to be
opening. That's another venue that would be great to use to promote the
written word -- but one thing at a time!
As you can tell, I'm really interested in getting some community going
around writing. I'm finding it harder to make it into Vancouver these days,
and so I'm looking around aware that there doesn't seem to be much in my
neighbourhood. Maybe I'm wrong -- I hope so!
Is anyone else interested in seeing what we can do to start some community
happening/local promo/events for writers? What about you published
authors out there? I'd love to see the Arts Council shops carry your books,
and have you guys do readings there.
Please respond to this message, if there's any interest out there, & we'll
see what develops. Thanks!
