Learn how to navigate the stages of conceiving, researching and structuring a novel. Discuss the writing and revision process; play with brainstorming, outlining and drafting techniques; design your own schedule; and explore how to present your work for publication. This workshop fosters the development of writing and editing skills through exercises, instruction, in-depth discussion and constructive class feedback. Topics include plot, structure, character development, dialogue and other fiction fundamentals.

Learn how to read the
blueprint of your first draft, and discover your story on a deeper level through structural analysis. Discuss the rewriting process in detail, including different approaches and methodologies; the importance of character development; and how to solve problems in individual scenes. The class will include workshop of a short excerpt to illustrate the fundamentals of scene design. Please bring a scene of 10-12 pages (one-sided, double-spaced, 12pt font) that includes at least two characters and dialogue. This workshop is open only to students who have a complete first draft of their novel and will be limited to 10 participants.
