Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!
Supreme Lord Sree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed to practise five principal forms of devotion - Association of sadhus, Chanting of Holy Names, Hearing Bhagavat, Dwelling in Mathura and serving Deities with firm faith. Hearing of Bhagavat is one of the principal forms of devotion. It is necessary first to hear Bhagavat from a bonafide true devotee for being entitled to read Bhagavat.
Devotee should read Bhagavat with great reverence and devotion, after praying the grace of Guru-Vaishnav-Bhagavan. The significance of Sreemat Bhagavat, which is One with Sree Krishna will be revealed to a bonafide surrendered soul. It is not possible to realise the inner significance of Srimad Bhagavat by intellect and mental capacity.
Our Param Guru-padpadma Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur used to say, 'Bhakti cannot be propagated by a non-devotee by ornamental rhetoric language'. If a bonafide true devotee will read Bhagavat with the sole purpose of propitiating Sree Krishna, his words are transcendental as such, there will be feeling of a spiritual, devotional vibration in the soul, without knowing the meaning of the speech, word by word.
Worldly educated person cannot exactly interpret the sayings of a devotee. You should hear interpretation also from a true devotee. In short, whatever devotional forms we practise, target should be correct, i.e., target should be for the satisfaction of Sree Krishna and His devotees. We should be very careful in regard to this, so that we cannot miss the target.
His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj
