Very nice job Jon and company!!!!! Sorry I could not be there but you had the folks you needed. I got held up at Rufus an extra day. Indeed.....the squeaky wheel syndrome. I hope we can make one last session at least at LL this season.....and a weeeee post celebration might not hurt.

Date: Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 9:05 AMSuperb job JonI read this in disbelief , things like this only happen in the movies . Good triumphing over adversity . you win the squeaky wheel award . Even if we don't get to use Lake Lowell this year its the principle of the matter . We set a wrong right and that's worth fight for any day . and also congratulations on your new position as president .Steve Linane----- Original Message -----From: Jon BoltSent: Monday, July 27, 2009 9:34 PMSubject: [BSA] Re: [snowkiteidaho] Crapo meeting results....kiters be happyJack, guess I should come clean. I had pictures of the Senator....As Jack hints (sorry for not getting the word out faster, my wife is impatient at my progress at housepainting and quitting time tonight wasn't until 9 PM), the present kiteboarding ban at Lake Lowell has been lifted !!!! We can all play there with clear conscience. Of course there's still this 3 year CCP process that's re-evaluating all lake uses and will end up establishing a new list of approved and restricted uses, but we'll be respresented in that evaluation process and I have a hard time imagining kiteboarding ending up anything but approved. In the meantime we're good to go !FWS flew in their regional supervisor of Refuges from Portland, who manages all refuges in Washington and Idaho. He had obviously read all the emails between me and Deerflat personnel and seemed pretty well informed of what's been said & done. In a nutshell, he accepted that kiteboarding indeed had been going on for many years at Lake Lowell and stated that until the CCP process determines otherwise (if it does) their policy/preference would be to make no changes/restriction s to historical uses including kiteboarding. Although the blue pamphlet may not be reprinted this year to strike kiteboarding from the prohibited list, he confirmed it will be allowed and will arrange so with Todd Fenzl (Deerflat Refuge Law Enforcement) .Thanks to Jack, Eddy & Tony Williams for attending & contributing to the dialog, and thanks to all those that attended the May 30 event at Lake Lowell and who emailed the Senator. Frankly, given all I heard about the the difficulty of overcoming issues w/ Federal agencies, I was stunned with the speed of getting this resolved and stoked it happened in time to enjoy Lake Lowell this year !!! I think it was a case of the agency realizing they had plenty to do without dealing with an unnecessary thorn in their side of their own making. Testament to the effectiveness of the "squeaky wheel" strategy and all of you helped the squeak to be louder.Jon

Jon’s the man! He can give you the details in detail.
I had no idea that Jon is so tight with Idaho’s Senior Senator (the new grand collaborator; not sure about the old one that likes to toe tap in stalls).

Subject: [snowkiteidaho] URGENT: attendance @ today's 2:30PM Crapo meeting....
Recognizing that the conference room in Senator Crapo's office has limited seating, and not wanting to surprise the 2 FWS representatives with a large group that might be intimidating and strike fear of ambush, I had been communicating with a small number of our members about attending the meeting, hoping to get 4-5 to show up. Those were Jack, Betsy, Eddy, Steve Linane, Scott Cryder, Jim V., and Brian Kerr...for the most part, the people that had the initiative to attend the May 30 Crapo press event. Recently Eddy put out a broadcast inviting the whole Association to attend largely because I failed to be proactive in communicating the limits & approach I was taking for gaining attendance (no problem Eddy, thanks for the initiative). Anyway, at this point the only definite attendees I know of are me, Jack, Eddy, and Tony Williams. Aside from us four we can only handle 1-2 more, which we'd welcome. But to assure we don't have more show up, beyond those 4 I've named, if you plan to attend please phone me first at 853-6212 so I can know the total count of attendees and avert a problem before you go to the effort of showing up.
