Udall defeats Pearce in US Senate race
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Democratic Rep. Tom Udall on has won the U.S. Senate seat held by New Mexico's longest-serving senator, Republican Pete Domenici.
Udall's victory over Republican Rep. Steve Pearce sends two Democratic senators from New Mexico to Washington for the first time since early 1973.
The call was based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
Udall, the son of former Interior Secretary Stewart Udall and nephew of former Arizona Congressman Mo Udall, has said he will carry on a family tradition of conservation and public service.
