Perl Seminar NY will have its first meeting of the 2002-03 season next
Date: Tuesday, October 15, 6:15 to 8:15 pm
NYPC Users Group
481 8 Ave, Suite 1560 (34th St)
Agenda: We're still working on confirming the major presentation of the
evening, and we'll get that news to you as it breaks. But we can confirm
1. Report on YAPC::Europe 2002. Veteran Perlmonger David H Adler will give
us an update on Yet Another Perl Conference's Munich manifestation. In true
Perlmonger tradition, reference will be made to Perl as well as to beer.
2. A Pure Perl Solution to the Classroom Scheduling Problem. The dilemma
that high school principals, college deans and Perl conference organizers
face all the time: Given lists of teachers/speakers, rooms, class
periods/time slots and courses/lecture topics, formulate a schedule of
groups such that only one group is booked into a given room at a given time
and no instructor or student is booked into two places at once (especially
when they're not anywhere at all). Is a pure Perl solution possible? Jim
Keenan has been working on it and will report on a work in progress as well
as digress about the hash of arrays as a Perl data structure. Is a pure
Perl solution desirable? Show up, and you'll be the judge.
Note: We have one presentation fairly well confirmed for our November
meeting, but are still looking for a second speaker for that meeting and
speakers for our December meeting as well. You can either respond to the
list or e-mail jkeen@...
