Susan, it is EXACTLY like the "Yankees thing". Through the years, it has always been true of every consistent winner, in every major sport: The Yankees, the Celtics, the Lakers, the Canadiens, the Cowboys, the Steelers, etc.. The fact is that something in human nature (jealousy? envy?) makes people who have not been fans of a consistent winner, hate a consistent winner. I would guess that most on this list hated the teams I just named (except, of course, the Celtics) when those teams were regularly dominating their sports.
Here in Thailand, it's just as evident. I have, in fact, decided not to watch Patriots games in either of my two favorite venues for just that reason. You wouldn't believe the crap I took during, and at the end of, the Super Bowl last year when the Giants beat our Patriots. I literally stormed up to the bar, paid my bill, and left as quickly as I could. Earlier this season, I caught crap in the other place for my joy throughout the Patriots unexpected destruction of the Texans.
Win or lose, those who are not Patriots fans, hate the Patriots, and dump on Patriots fans. It just comes with the territory. ... And, for me, it's worth it! I will watch all Patriots; games in the only non-antagonistic venue I can find here - my own home. Then, with the heat and passion of the game done, I can quietly listen to people bitch and moan about the Patriots wins, or laugh it up over Patriots' losses, without taking personal abuse while I am also caught up in the emotions of the game.
Like you, I also have the desire to know that these people are really irritated when the Patriots win; and that desire adds to my already strong desire for our team to win another Super Bowl. I have no intention of whooping it up, or bragging about it, when I meet these guys later, Quite to the contrary. I plan to quietly revel in my satisfaction, with little more than a simple smile, and an occasional acknowledgement of the congratulations from the few non-Patriots haters in the crowd.
Let's just revel among our fellow Patriots fans in the joy of being fans of one of the greatest teams, and one of the greatest Head Coach/QB teams, in the history of the NFL; and let the haters choke on it!

Hey all....I need some reassurance...lol! It's bad
enough that the sportscasters barely hide their dislike for the Pats, but on a
rock and roll station? Just now I heard the DJ on K-Earth (oldies) talk about
the games this weekend and babble on and on about how anyone else should go to
the SB besides the Pats. HE hates the Pats and so does everyone else. They're
referred to as Patsies, Pattys, and Hatriots.
I normally have to reassure my son that some people
are just ignorant and such or they have their own opinions, but now it's getting
to me too. What is up with that? Just the video-taping thing? Or that they're
good and people don't like that, like the Yankees team?
Besides my other reasons, I'd like them to win the
SB just to shove it in those people's faces. They probably would have to take
the day off from work to recover.
