The comments of Michael Felger on WEEI today indicated that it was
Tampa Bay that fumbled the ball on this deal. They had discussed a
possible deal for Cassell, but couldn't get their act together until
it was too late to pull the trigger on the three-way with Denver. The
KC deal had already been consummated.
The theories in the article you referenced are very interesting, Rich.
I believe theory #2 could have relevance. He may have had an agreement
regarding Cassell, in principle, in place with Pioli from the time he
left. I don't buy the other two possibilities. A number 12 pick is
BB's sweet spot (and easily tradeable), and he and Josh seemed to have
parted on very amicable terms.
