Evgeny Tlatov reposed about ninety minutes ago now, i.e., about 4:20 pm Thursday, Seattle time, in Swedish Hospital in Seattle. He was just short of 83 years old. He was without doubt our best Russian friend in St Nicholas Church, Seattle. He was a gentleman among gentlemen, courtly, a very sly and comic sense of humor, unfailingly kind. He was one of perhaps three Russians in the parish who recognized Orthodox Christianity as being truly catholic, universal, for all men and women, and welcomed us as Orthodox Christians. He was born in central Russia somewhere, and I never really learned how he got to Seattle. He had lived in Shanghai. We are very grateful to him for his friendship. He received Communion about 3 a.m. Wednesday, shortly lapsed into a coma.
