The Transitional Government For Serbia - The Serbian Orthodox Church Will Decide Next Week
BELGRADE 7. August - The extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church were organized yesterday in the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. Public statement was not presented even it was announced. By the resources from the Serbian Patriarchate, St. Savva's Youth Press Service is informed that agenda of the Synod was dedicated to the present situation with in FR Yugoslavia, and possible participation of the Church in the process of taking in power the Transitional government, according to the independent economist group G17 proposal. His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle already had meeting with the co-ordinator of the G17 Mr. Mladjan Dinkic, during last week. Serbian and Yugoslav public expects that Patriarch will receive Vuk Draskovic and Zoran Djindjic, leaders of the strongest opposition parties and coalitions with in Serbia, as well as Mr. Dinkic, during next days.
The Synod of the Church should have one more meeting on Monday in order to deal with the final position of the Serbian Church toward proposal for the Transitional government and Stability pact for Serbia, as G17 named it's proposal.
According to the version of the pact that Belgrade's daily newspaper "Blic" published in today's edition, the Church should have important role if the Transitional government came in power. Since the elections for the Serbian and Federal Parliament are not planed, but only withdrawal from the executive power by the Milosevic's coalition of the Socialist Party, Yugoslav Left and Radical Party, the Church should be the moderator in so-called Arbitration Council that will guard over the deal.
Even it was not announced by the creator of this plan, it became obvious that the present deal is far from Milosevic's position toward Serbian and Yugoslav political life in future. Yesterday he directly attacked "some political parties" as one's that are presenting "a hand of those who had bombed us by 22 000 t of bombs". It was clear that he had in mind all that participating talks on the Transitional government and Stability pact for Serbia proposal.
