It's even more interesting than that. With the addition of
'^!SetScreenUpdate OFF' the difference between 4.95 and 5 becomes
even more obvious. I created a doc with 15000 lines and made it so
every second line would be deleted. It so happened every line had 63
With screen update
NTP 4.95 3-4 seconds
NTP 5 8 seconds
With screen update off
NTP 4.95 instant
NTP 5 6-7 seconds
It seems that even if regex is faster in 5, some other things aren't.
Just out of interest, could you try my clip with screen update turned
off on your document? Would be interesting since you had so much
longer processing time to start with.
RegEx is über-nice, but I still think NoteTab's strength is
elsewhere. If you know RegEx you could after all do this kind of
operation with oodles of tools. If you don't know RegEx and don't
want to learn, there aren't that many options. Don't misunderstand
me, RegEx is cool and all that, but if you don't need it frequently
the learning curve does seem steep. Also, if one doesn't use it
frequently a repetition course would be needed every time. So for
people like me, who need to do things like this a couple of times per
year, I say thank heavens for clip language! ;-)
