It's been a while. But didn't I once discover the latter somehow has affect? (^% vs. %) I think it needs to be the latter.

I'm asking outside of myself because that's where the task lies in order for ME to remember.

Empties the specified variable.

right you are Alan! When you do an action to a variable as opposed to with
a variable is how I try to remember. I still mess it up sometimes ...
including right here today :-)
