Just back, hence the delay in reply, from a few days holiday in Derbyshire
(Yes, it is pronounced Darbyshire! :-)

Yes! We changed "Initialize" for "Initialise" - but more seriously...
Messages such as:
"The transmission former mail address is not correctly set"
"Failed in the IP address acquisition"
"From Address format error"
"Unable to find email server"
which means I'm getting fewer help messages to answer! :-)

As you've discovered, currently, CTRL/SHIFT+click only works conventionally
and things aren't sticky. :-(
However, I use the keyboard: SHIFT+DOWNARROW will select bunches of headers,
then CTRL+DEL to mark the selected items for deletion. (On my laptop these
keys are so close to each other it's very quick!) Hold DOWNARROW to skip a
few good messages and then back to SHIFT+DOWNARROW to select another bunch
ready for CTRL+DEL to mark them for deletion. I find this pretty fast.
CTRL+G then goes to the server and makes the deletions.

Ah! As nPOP is my e-mail client, there's not even a need to switch!
