Thursday February 10, 7PM
Join us for an evening with Jean Hicks, a Northwest
native whose love of wool and felt drew her to Finland for a residency at the Jyvaskyla institute in central Finland, in May of 2010.
Jean will talk about her experience and show images
of her travels in the lecture.Funded in part by 4culture, Jean made felt using local wools, taught a felt hat-making class to
students of the institute and travelled to eastern
Finland, Helsinki and Tallinn Estonia meeting with
local felt makers and farmers.
Jean is a lifelong Northwesterner whose work has been seen at many art museums in the Pacific Northwest as well as in other part of the US and worldwide. Among them are Seattle Art Museum, Bellevue Art Museum, the Whatcom Museum of Art, The Hat Museum of Manchester, Musee de Chapeau de France and Filtti of Finland.
At home, Jean teaches at Pratt Fine Arts Center. She has also taught at Tacoma Art Museum, Frye Art Museum and Seattle public
schools. There will be a small fashion show as part of the evening.
