||Pennypack Coven will once again be honoring our departed loved ones and ancestors in a Dia de los Muertos celebration. Here are some links if you are unfamiliar with this festival:|
There are also some fabulous videos on YouTube related to this festival.
What to wear:
Dress warmly as we will be outside. Decorate yourself with skulls and flowers, and paint your face with halloween makeup like a skull. There is plenty of Halloween stuff in the stores right now to use, so be creative!
What to bring:
In case there aren't enough chairs to go around the bonfire (first come, first serve!), bring a blanket to sit on.
We will be making Ofrendas (altars) to our departed loved ones. Bring an altar cloth to spread out on the ground, candles (preferably the traditional blue), marigolds (also traditional) or other flowers, pictures of whom you'd like to honor, little gifts or trinkets that they would have liked in life, small food and drink offerings, religious icons they would have admired (votives of saints or Mary or Jesus if that was their tradition), some incense to burn, and any other item that your intuition tells you to put on the Ofrenda.
Also, bring a dish and a beverage to share with the group. Also bring your own cup, plate, and utensils to honor the local spirits by not having paper, plastic, and foam to add to the trash.
There is also going to be a time when each individual in the circle gets to say something meaningful about the person/people he or she is honoring. So feel free to write something ahead of time.....a few memorial words, a poem, etc..
Anyone from any religious background is welcome to attend.
