River Haven Arts & Sciences Baronial Competition
10th & 11 March 2012 at Stegby
This is the final round of an 18 month period Competition of new Garb making. Documentation is expected with all entries. Entry Forms: These will be made available on the day of the Competition.
1. Full Garb outfit, any period of your choice ( 6 or 7 pieces ) suitable for a women or a man or a child
This can be made up of 3-4 only pieced Garb set: 1 x head wear: veil, coifs or hat, 1 x Chemise, and 1-2 outer garment pieces. And including 2 -3 accessories: belt- eg leather or cloth, pouch, shoes, jewellery etc
In this Section, the entries can include garbed items entered from last 2 competitions ( March and Sept 2011) to help complete the set.
For the Good Men of our Barony - it has come to our notice that comments- like "I can do the Accessories OK BUT a bit put off having to make 3 pieces of garb!?!
Why have no Fear - we don't hold this to be true!!!
Like the good ladies of our fine Barony, Garb and or accessories may be a challenge for them TOO! ALSO we are not expecting you to do late period garb for this Comp entry if early period is in your style and or skill range. Work with what suits you.
2. Heraldry Device:
One item with your heraldry device painted, stitched or grooved into e.g.; leather, cloth banner, pouches or favors, onto a shield etc. In response to your questions
The device does not need to be registered.It can be your device or that of your partner.
ORIt can be a Canton or Household or Barony device
OR NO Kingdom device unless it is part of a (e.g.) Standard Banner with your heraldry
device on it too
3. Illumination Section : "Labours of the Month"
In the medieval period the Book of Hours and other manuscripts would show the calendar of yearly events. The `Labours of the Month' section would show the seasonal, mostly agricultural activities and in more elaborately decorated books, they would paint suitable illuminations.
Competition Piece: An Illumination with calligraphy, of the Autumn month of March, April or May (Southern Lochac months Northern Europe time of Sept October & November ) showing one "Labour" any time period / style. 4. Food: Two Sections
You may enter one or both if you wish.
4A: Biscuits A small tray of period biscuits
4B: Autumn Preserves one jar/ dish of a fruit OR vegetable OR combination of both preserves.
All Entries can be posted or delivered to the A & S Officers of RH Friday before the Sat or to Stegby Canton where the Competition will be judged Please hand your entries in by 1.30pm Sat afternoon.
