This morning I was walking along the flood plain of the Rivanna River near Pen Park and saw 3 Vesper Sparrows. I also saw a large flock of Pine Siskins. I wonder how long they will stay around?
An afternoon float trip down the Rivanna from Darden Towe to Shadwell produced some more good birds. Two Blue-winged Teal were near Free Bridge. Further downstream was 1 Scaup and the first Wood ducks that I have seen this year. I also saw 1 Louisiana Waterthrush along the shoreline and heard one Yellow-Throated Warbler singing. Towards the end of the trip a Spotted Sandpiper was seen on a sandbar. I also saw 2 Bald Eagles. ONe near Tufton Farms and one near the Shadwell bridge.
