while I am here, I thought I would give you guys a rundown of some of our mb activities down under. They are few and far between because consciously mb people seem to be few and far between here - well compared to the US - though it seems over there people seem to be concetrated in certian areas.
However recently they all seem to be popping out of the woodwork and the interest is growing! Organically!
Anyway, I have been in touch with mb round the world and am loving that sense of international community - thank you all! :-)
I am hearing about the struggles and triumphs of my friend in Kuwait to bring a balanced and traditional approach to wholefoods and healing and true mb understanding to people there amdist much adversity and misunderstaniding of how to balance food intake and lifestyle in that environment.
I have been hearing about the mb family who cooks for the Royal family in Belgium where 1% of the population of the country (as well as holland) consider themselves mb - I believe that is the largest per capita apart from people naturally eating traditional diets.
My friend in Perth, Western Australia is cooking up a storm with balanced yet inventive cooking and lifestyle classes - something different for this part of the world.
My online friends at Casa de Luz in Texas are inspiring me with their ideas - and millet carrot cakes!
And here in Melbourne, I have just self published my first cookbook - Seasonal Variation: WholeSummer Meals. And witten a mb kids book - Michio Mouse and the Magic Spectacles.
Last week we had one of the biggest mb events here ever - over 55 people turned up - with very short notice and no formal advertising to a lecture i organized with Sandor Katz who wrote Wild Fermentation - a bible on the benefits and how to on cultured and pickled foods. We had a macrobiotically inspired world class musican perform - Lindsay Buckland - whose music is magical, addictive and inspired
We had a pot luck beforehand which was nice too - not for 55 - maybe about 20 or so. What a night - I launched my cookbook that night too which was fun - I got to sign all the copies and the feedback was great.
