I recently ordered an I8000 from Dell, requesting the ATI video card,
because I knew it was supported out of the box by XFree86.
Dell shipped me the nvidia card anyway, so before I return it and make a stink I'm trying to get it to work. I've read your FAQ; I've read all the sites mentioned on linux-laptop.net (which seems to be down temporarily); I've read a number of messages in this group, but I haven't noticed a reference to my problem, yet, which appears to be that when I start X, the screen goes all googley. I see the following error messages in /var/log/XFree86.0.log:
Symbol xf86PrintEDID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol xf86InterpretEDID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o+is unresolved!
However, I can modprobe the NVdriver module without error.
I am using the latest driver RPM from nvidia, and the kernel that ships with RH7.1 for pcmcia. I will rebuild the kernel anyway, with 2.4.6, but I wanted to see something close to RH's default
more or less running before I did so.
Any clues, gurus?
