Asombro Institute for Science Education Hosts Winter Wonder Walk
The sunshine and mild temperatures of winter is one of the reasons many of us live in the Chihuahuan Desert. It is also one of the reasons family and friends who living in not-so-agreeable climates come to visit. Why not show them what the rest of the desert has to offer? Bring them to the Winter Wonder Walk at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park on Wednesday, December 21 at 9:00 a.m. for an educational and entertaining experience.
An Asombro Institute scientist will lead a guided walk on the Desert Discovery Trail. We will meet at the trailhead in the Nature Park parking area. This 1.2-mile loop is a moderate walking trail taking you past many different native plants and homes of local animals.
The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park is located northeast of Las Cruces. From I-25 in Las Cruces, head east on Highway 70 and take the Mesa Grande Road exit (at Oñate High School). Make a U-turn under the highway to head west and stay in the right lane onto the frontage road. Turn right (north) on Jornada Road. Follow Jornada Road for 6.4 miles and turn left at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park sign. Follow the entrance road to the parking area and trailhead. The Nature Park is open Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm.
The Asombro Institute for Science Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing scientific literacy by fostering an understanding of the Chihuahuan Desert. The Asombro Institute for Science Education provides hands-on science education programs for more than 12,000 students throughout southern New Mexico and western Texas each year.
