Western Ideas/Colonial Mentality
Manilatown Heritage Foundation is now seeking artwork for exhibition at Manilatown Center!
The Manilatown Center's quarterly exhibitions are themed presentations, with accompanying auxiliary programming. The theme for 2008 is Globalization: Response and Responsibility. There are four exhibitions that deal with topics related to the theme and their effect on the Filipino community both locally and globally. Our next exhibition is on Western Ideas/Colonial Mentality (May 10-July19). You do not have to be Filipino to submit a proposal, but the works must address the Filipino experience.
We also invite proposals for auxiliary events, such as readings, film screenings, panel discussions, etc. to present along with the exhibitions.
DEADLINE: Please submit your proposal by April 1,

6. FREE CHINESE MOVIE
Tuesday, April 15
Join us for a feast of tea, popcorn & warm company as we watch...
The Chinese Feast
Food and fisticuffs meet in a dazzling exhibition of "cook fu" when rival chefs compete in an acrobatic display, turning ordinary dishes such as beef chow fun and sweet
and sour pork into culinary masterpieces. The film culminates in a 3-day cooking contest to re-create the majestic Qing Han Imperial Feast, a banquet held in the 17th century to unite a divided China.
7. FREE FILIPINO MOVIE
Tuesday, April 22
Let's get loca and pop some popcorn and drink some tea as we watch...
La Visa Loca
With dreams of becoming a certified caregiver in the United
States, Filipino nursing assistant Jess Huson (Robin Padilla) is at mercy of grouchy government workers who seem to take delight in stamping "Denied" on his visa applications. Meanwhile, he's stuck serving as a uniformed chauffeur to the marginally rich and famous-the most impressive of whom is a talk-show host (Paul Holme) who exploits human oddities for a living.
8. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
I-Hotel Manilatown Center is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help out in an array of different activities, such as tech, outreach, historical archiving and more.
