23 participants for the Wave and Freestyle Classic Dominican Republic
kiteboard pro tour.
The first week's competition was "suspended" due to lack of wind. The real
competition started only on April 7, side-onshore, 10-12 knots in the morning
and 15-16 knots later in the day. Competitors were using between 8 m2 and 11
m2 kites. All 16 heats were validated.
April 8, Trades at 15 knots and picking up to 20-22 knots with a small swell.
Still 8 m2 and 11 m2 kites, which gave us many spectacular jumps, especially
Franz Olry (France) and Chris Gilbert (USA). 4 finalist: Olry/Gilbert and
Tasti/Shinn. Tasti advanced to the final heat while Gilbert lost his board
and lose out to Olry.
Great final between Olry and Tasti. The wind picked up and the 6.5m2 are
used. Olry stole the show with no hand jumps right along side the beach.
Tasti got lots of air but mostly the same kind of jumps. Olry definitely had
the upper hand and won.
Last day, loser's heat was won by Gilbert who continued to eliminate Tasti.
He was up against Olry, but again, Olry won the heat and thus the competition.
