Subject: [EssenceofJamieAaronKelley] More on Atlantic
Hello Jamie Fans!
I tried to send this message a few hours
ago from work, and I don't think it made it to the group. I don't know
what I did wrong, but let me try again. If you get essentially the same
information (eventually) twice, that will mean the first one DID finally show up
- and and the problem is ME (very possible)
further news from Atlantic City:
First of all, Larry is still trying to
get email access to the group, but hadn't been able to. He was going to see if
there was a "Business Center" at the hotel. No pictures available yet,
either. While pictures are officially prohibited, "someone" tried to sneak a few
with a camera-phone, but didn't exactly know how to use it, or how to save the
pictures. So maybe he'll try again ..
But the word is that EVERYONE
loved the Show!! And by EVERYONE, I mean EVERYONE - the audience, OF
COURSE, and also the Producers of the show as well as the Harrah's Entertainment
Director. Now not that that comes as a surprise to any of us - but
good to hear it!
Jamie only got to rehearse for 2 days with the
sets. You all know this show uses a huge stage with very elaborate sets, and
everyone in the show has to coordinate their movements with the sets and with
each other. And Jamie pulled it off without a hitch! The Producers were
reportedly "astounded" at how well it went! As great a show as I'm told Martin
does, they told Jamie he brought a "new level of energy" to the show, and with
the music. Outstanding!!! They told him "we're going to make you a
STAR". Well, of course he's already a STAR in my book - and to you all as
well, I know - but how neat to hear that!!!!
Jamie started the show
coming out on stage singing and accompanying himself on the guitar. Most of you
know Jamie's instrument of choice is the piano. He really hasn't played
guitar much at all before - but they told him he needed to learn. So, over the
course of the last 3-4 weeks, he taught himself. Ya know how? He watched
video's of Elvis' 68 Come-Back Special over and over and watched Elvis play the
guitar! Now, if this wasn't Jamie we're talking about, I'd find that story
hard to believe!! But, with Jamie's talent, it isn't even
The Music Coordinator/Entertainment Director of the Casino
was apologetic that they didn't have time to print flyers and signs with Jamie's
name on them - but told him that after last night's show, they are going to
"TELL EVERYONE WHO YOU ARE"!!!
Some similarities to other shows in
that many folks in the audience who hadn't heard Jamie before thought he was
lip-synching at first - but then after they figured out he WASN'T - well, we all
know - THAT VOICE! WOW!! I'm told the first standing ovation
occurred during the Movie Years, and Larry "lost track after 4!!!"
Another highlight was when Jamie sang "My Way". Well, that is one
of my (many) all-time favorites anyway, but picture it - they filled the stage
with fog, and he came out into the audience a little way ----- and the crowd
just milled around him, they just wanted to touch him!!! He couldn't get
back up on stage quite as soon as he wanted, but you know Jamie - he was able to
"work the crowd" and still keep the show going without a hitch.
show progressed, and as Elvis aged in the Show, and they added little pieces to
the hair and so on, and the costumes - people lost sight of the fact that it
wasn't really Elvis on stage. They went wild. They got TOTALLY into the Story
and the Show...
After the show, a group from New York were talking about
how great the show was and how many people they were going to bring back - kind
of taking bets on how long before the show was sold out every night, and they
weren't thinking it would be very long!!! Think about what a great place
this is to start the next stage of Jamie's career - how many million people do
you suppose are within an easy drive of this show???? It boggles the mind
- at least for those of us who think Omaha or Kansas City are
You know that "room like a palace" they put Jamie in??
Well, it is a huge suite!!! Big entry hall, long living-room, big bed-room with
Jacuzzi, big fancy bathroom - sounds like those big Casino "high roller" suites
that I dream about when I see them on the Travel Channel! And his dressing
room - fit for a star too! Large comfortable lounge area, complete with
big-screen TV - dressing area with mirror-lined walls - private bathroom - ocean
view! They really are treating Jamie like the Star he is!!! Just
like we all knew he should be treated all along!!!
They did tape the show
- but I'm told not for sale. I guess they want people to keep coming back buying
tickets. Don't they know we'd still go see the show every chance we could,
even if we had a tape to watch at home!!! Guess they just don't
Well, that's all I can remember - I know I'm forgetting
things - but hopefully this email will go thru this time!!!
