NORM: LV all shook up about Elvis star
Elvis Presley is once again a star on Las Vegas Boulevard.
In a ceremony Friday that featured three of his old pals, the Las
Vegas Walk of Stars honored The King with a celebrity star that will
go in front of the Riviera near those of fellow icons Liberace and
Sammy Davis Jr.
"Elvis has come home to stay," Elvis fan club president Sue Laurenz
told a cheering crowd. Her group, the
Viva Las Vegas Club, raised most
of the $15,000 needed for the star, the 27th to go on The Strip.
(ps from sue - we raised it all and then some!)
With that mission accomplished, the next step should be getting a
street named after Elvis, said Joe Esposito, one of the three members
of Elvis' Memphis Mafia who attended the ceremony in the Riviera's Le
"I don't understand why there isn't a street named after Elvis," said
Esposito, Elvis' road manager and best man at Presley's wedding to
Priscilla. That brought down the house, too.
(sue says- i explained why we don't have a street to our dinner crowd,
and, you can read why at our website) WWW.VIVALASVEGASCLUB.NET
It's become a sore point to Elvis fans, after seeing a half dozen
other entertainers get streets named in their honor.
Elvis, said Riviera president Bob Vannucci, didn't just fill the
showroom, "he filled the city."
Also attending was S
ammy Shore, Elvis' opening act for years during
his long run at The International (now the Las Vegas Hilton), and
Sonny West, Presley's bodyguard and close friend, and Pete "Big Elvis"
Valle, who played a big part in getting Elvis his start.
i wanted to let you know the installation went perfectly and finished at 10am.
i video taped it, so eventually, you, too, will be able to see it on planned dvd.
there's now a barricade, but the cement will be dry tomorrow and the barrier will be removed.
i tell you, our star is gorgeous!!!!!!!
about the dvd. darrin and i have a lot of work to do. not only video, but a picture slide show. we are hoping to release in november. i definitely will be keeping all star donors posted.
by the way, we are looking for everyone's best pictures of the ce
remony day and the installation. they can email or mail them to me. (VLVCLUBPREZ@...) darrin and i will pick the best ones and the contributor will be given credit. we know there are some really good pictures out there.
sorry for those who couldn't be there, but i hope you will still fully enjoy yourself when you see it for the first time. our baby! ;) all donors can feel so proud today... WE DID IT.
PS- I have had some questions about joining the Viva Las Vegas Club. anyone is welcome to join us. The dues are $15. More information is at our website.
Also, I had many questions about the star t-shirts being worn. Due to popular demand, I will make them available in a limited production. For now, email me your interest and what size you would like and how many. That way I can make a huge bulk order. I am not sure what the price would be, but I am guessing $15 or $20 because of p
ostage. It will take me awhile to create an inventory. Please note, I am not selling these to the world at large. (think of EPE's rules) However, I am making them available to DONORS only! (But if a donor wants to buy more than one, that is OK ; ). I need to justify these shirts and that's the thought I have. PLUS I want to say all the items we have produced along the way have always been for the DONORS. That's pretty rare and special. ;) I will be sending out keepsake invitations and programs to the best of my ability.
That's all for now...
Thanks again for being part of a historic event!
