By Luh De Suriyani The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network Girls above are not confirmed as sex workers Monday, Jan 07, 2013 BALI - The Bali Health Agency is reaching out to sex workers to boost the rate of condom use to 80 per cent from a current 39 per cent to prevent the spread of HIV. "Ideally, there should be at least 80 per cent of sex workers who use condoms regularly for HIV/AIDS prevention. That is our target," Gede Agus Suryadinatha, the head of the Bali Health Agency's HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted disease programme, said. BALI - Spiritualism and the Balinese and sexuality; both are among the strongest identities of the Balinese. The first sexual encounters of many Balinese men are found with sex workers, at a very young age. The sex workers have, somewhat, been taking the part-time role of sex educators, substituting the role of schools and parents. Or perhaps not substituting, since there is a lack of, or no, sex education in the curriculum or in parent-child conversations. Losing one's virginity with an "educator", or regular attendance at the "alternative school", sees boys earn the trophy ... more »Editors Note: The news just keeps on getting better and beter for Sanur on Bali's east coast. This fact was revealed when the Commission III Bali Council made an inspection of the Hotel Mulia in the Sawangan area of Nusa Dua last Thursday. Bad news for employees in that they have to struggle with the rising cost of food, which I believe is rising far faster. Those planning projects this year should allow for a possible forced wage hike in minimum wage, which if anything like Jakarta could be substantial. The combined effect of 5% inflation wage hike plus possible minimum-wage hikes will problem definitely mean that the cost of construction... more »
