Interesting return to an "old" paradigm: American idea being modified and carried forth in Japan while we sit back and do nothing.
I first saw this idea at the Fredericksburg TXSES Round-Up event in 2009 - I'm pretty sure I shared it with HREG then. The inventors could only display a non-working mock-up because they had just sent their functional prototype to Siemens -- the latter had just bought the patents. I'm away from home right now, don't have my 2009 videos with me. Honeywell was going to unveil and demonstrate it at a big home show in Las Vegas in early 2010. I found some of my old e-mails - see:
Hello from the WindTronics team.
we would like to thank you for your inquiry about the Honeywell WT6500
Wind Turbine and the future of small wind technology.
have had hundreds of thousands of visitors to our Web Sites and we are
truly humbled by the interest, and more determined than ever to bring Today's Wind Energy to Every Day Life.
This is the first of a monthly update to discuss product releases and innovations. Please make sure you visit our website at www.windtronics.com to see what is new, product, press, download tools and marketing materials. The Honeywell Wind Turbine is Today’s Wind Energy. Energy you can feel with the lowest startup speed and highest output levels in class and size.
the last year we have doubled our energy output levels to 2000
-2752kWh/yr (class 3 & 4), unheard of before now in a 6 foot system.
WindTronics has conquered the wind start-up barrier at less than 2 mph

In February 2010,
the first units will be available at participating Ace Hardware stores.
By early spring, additional retailers and dealers will have turbines on
hand and we will provide updates on distribution in the upcoming
months. At WindTronics, our goal is to make wind energy simpler,
user friendly and powerful. We know that renewable energies such as
wind generators can make a difference to our future and people in the
world that do not have electric energy today. We are proud to be part of the solution and hope that we can make a positive impact in your budget and lives. Please visit the web site www.windtronics.com
for a range of tools including wind source and rebates information with
our handy download tools. Take a moment and look at our wind tunnel
video for a sneak peak on how the system runs.

with the effectiveness of the Honeywell Wind Turbines Blade Tip Power
System (BTPS). We know you expect top quality, top output, silent
operations and care for wildlife and ease of installation. We have
tried to deliver it all..... in the pursuit of www.EnergyYouCanFeel.com Thank you, WindTronic
For the current status, see http://www.windtronics.com/home. They were supposed to be marketed through Ace Hardware; I don't know where that stands. I recall a not-very-positive report by Consumers Reports a few months ago - they dispute Honeywell claims of efficient generation at wind speeds as low as 2 (two) mph.
Anyway, now the Japanese seem to have taken the idea of a near friction-less modified bicycle wheel with fan-blade-like spokes, inside a circular magnet, and are using a presumably more efficient three-pointed propeller design. Good for them, but I hope some American manufacturer really takes over, before the Chinese pre-empt us all and corner the market.

We have to help one another, since otherwise there is NO ONE who will help. - All countries need a NO REGRETS strategic policy regarding non-renewable resources, starting with water. - Plan ahead seven generations -- reduce all your consumption, and eliminate waste. - "Health" insurance companies are the American death panels; their business is to collect premiums and deny benefits. Their CEO's, and lesser bureaucrats, should not be part of any civilized health care system.
