The MacCat Standard, is recommended for most who want a much
better tarp than the stock fly that comes with many commercial
hammocks, but dont want to waste weight or extra fabric. The MacCat
Standard is the best general use MacCat, and will suit most
hammockers needs nicely without excess. The length is 125" on the
ridgeline and 42" at its widest point on each size, for a total
width of 84".
The larger version of the catenary cut series is the MacCat Deluxe,
which is 133" long at the ridgeline and 52" wide at the widest point
(at the tieouts) from the ridgeline on each side, for a total width
of 104". The MacCat Deluxe is for those who either want a really big
tarp to sit out long rainstorms in, or want to fit a large amount of
The catenary curves on all 6 sides keep the fabric tensioned and
flap free in all but the largest windstorms. The curves eliminate
sleepless nights caused by tarp flapping.
MacCat tarps come with strong triple reinforced edging. All raw
edges (including entire perimeter and finished flat felled seam) are
hot sealed by hand with a candle, then hemmed, and then finally
double stiched with Gross Grain Ribbon, providing a durable, good
looking protection to all raw edges. You can be sure that no fraying
will occur on any MacCat tarp. This construction helps define the
catenary curves on the sides and distribute tie out stress. All
tieouts are reinforced with extra wide webbing and durable nylon tie
outs, which are very fray and cut resistant.
All MacCat tarps come with a matching silnylon stuff sack (square
bottomed sack with drawcord closure and cordlock) and come 100% seam
sealed. I seal both the center seam and all tieouts with 100%
silicone sealer, applied using a brush.
Tarps purchased all include D-rings on the ridgeline tie outs for
attachment to popular commercial hammocks. They can also be strung
up on their own independent ridgeline to provide better ventilation.
The MacCat Standard weighs in at 12oz with the stuffsack and
sealing, and the current cost is $95. The MacCat Deluxe weighs 16oz,
and costs $120. I can add extra tieouts to the ridgeline or onto the
sides of the tarp, at request.
