I have been recovering from total hip replacement surgery in early
August. Saturday afternoon I hung my HH Expedition asym with the
JRB nest in the back yard. I used my Sierra Designs van Winkle
sleeping bag as a quilt.
About 11 PM (61 degrees), I climbed in for one of the most enjoyable
nights I've had since surgery. I answered nature's call about 3 AM
and went promptly back to sleep. I was awakened by a barred owl
fussing about 5:30 AM. Shifted from my back to my side and awoke
again at 7:30. Decided that it was time to go in. The temperature
was 46 degrees. It was great being back outdoors again. I didn't
realize how much I had missed being in a hammock. There was
absolutely no discomfort at all.
Now all I have to do is continue to build up strength in that hip
and get out hiking again. I have been cleared to hit the golf
course and am looking forward to that. My next project will be
getting back in one of my kayaks and taking an overnight trip down a
