Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and the Study of
Religion, Department of Classics and Religion, at the
University of Massachusetts (Boston), editor of Paul and
Empire (1997) and Paul and Politics (2000), and author of
Jesus and the Spiral of Violence (1992), Sociology and the
Jesus Movement (1989), Archeology, History, and Society in
Galilees (1996), and many other works,
has agreed to conduct a two week online Seminar with Corpus Paulinum
members and other interested parties on the ideas and arguments set
out in chapters 5-9 of Richard A. Horsley and Neil Asher Silberman,
The Message and the Kingdom. (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2002) and
the Introduction and the introductory essays to each of the four
chapters in Paul and Empire.
The Seminar, to be carried out under the auspices of Corpus Paulinum
and its managers, will begin on Monday, April 22nd, and will run
until Friday, May 3rd, 2002.
So as to be managed effectively, the Seminar will be conducted on a
subscription only basis (for instructions on subscribing, see below),
and all posts submitted by Seminar members will be and be subject to
selection by the seminar's moderators. Posts selected as best
suited to further the discussion will be answered by Professor
Horsley on a daily basis.
