PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON CIRCUS ANIMALS LAUNCHEDabout 18 hours ago - Wednesday, 03 July 2013, 14:25
A public consultation on the use of animals in circuses will open next Monday and will close on 19 July, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Animal Rights announced this afternoon.
Any organisations or individuals interested in expressing their views on the contentious issue – which has led, in recent years, to protests whenever circuses using animals are brought over – may do so by completing a consultation form which can be downloaded off the parliamentary secretariat’s website, www.msdec.gov.mt or collected at its office in Casa Leone, St Joseph High Street, Santa Venera.
The form asks respondents a number of questions, whilst giving them the opportunity to explain their answer in detail: space for additional comments is also available. Questions include the obvious one – whether they agree with the use of animals in circuses – and other related matters, such as whether a ban should cover all species or solely wild animals, and whether the existing structures are sufficient to enforce animal welfare laws.
Completed forms can either be emailed to consultation.animalwelfare@... or sent by mail to Circus Animals Consultation, the Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Casa Leone 476, St.Joseph High Road, St. Venera MALTA SVR 1012.
The completed forms will be received until noon on 19 July.
