BlankForest of Dean Local History Society
would like to invite you to the launch of their Roll of Honour CD.
On Saturday 26th August at 3pm at the Dilke Memorial Hospital.
The CD-ROM contains details of almost 600 fatal accidents, including details of the accidents, mines and mine owners. It also includes historical and modern photographs of the mines or their sites.
From the middle of the nineteenth century official records have been kept of the names of all Freeminers. Well over 4000 names have been recorded on the CD and will provide a valuable data source for local and family historians.
Copies of the CD will be on sale at a cost of �19-99 and can also be obtained from the Publications Officer, Forest of Dean Local History Society, The Cottage, Ross Road, English Bicknor, GL16 7PA.
Many of the miners who received injuries in the mines and quarries in the Forest of Dean would have been taken to the Dilke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Friends of the Dilke Memorial Hospital will be providing cream teas at the launch of the CD and money raised from the sale of these teas will go towards their fighting fund.
Cinderford Town Band will be playing throughout the afternoon.
