Local Parenting Groups Part of International Effort to Break Guinness World RecordMARION, MA, AUGUST 8, 2007
- Two local parenting groups are part of an international effort to break the Guinness World Record of most mothers simultaneously breastfeeding babies. The SouthCoast Attachment Parenting and Babywearing Group (SouthCoast AP & BW) and the La Leche League (LLL) of Upper Cape Cod – Wareham are joining to co-host this event, along with local health professional and store owner, Louise Racine-Bastarache, CNM.
The Power of One is this year’s theme for World Breastfeeding Week. New scientific evidence supports the long known importance of colostrum (first milk.) According to the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), studies reveal that if EVERY woman worldwide begins breastfeeding within ONE hour after childbirth, it could prevent ONE million newborn deaths. First hour initiation of breastfeeding is the most vital step towards reducing the overwhelmingly high global infant mortality rate.
The effort will be held at Earth's Organic Partner in Marion, MA. The actual record will take place from 10:00 AM EST to 10:01 AM EST. The purpose of this event is not only to break the Guinness World Record but also to encourage more mothers to breastfeed their children from birth. Interested parties are advised that no formula, bottles, rubber teats, pacifiers, or baby food will be allowed at the site, per order of the Guinness World Record organization. These products can disqualify the site in the Guinness Record.
