Actually, what I'm talking about is the ability to convey real emotion and
intent with small, subtle expressions and mannerisms - something that people
do naturally, but often can't seem to pull off on screen. I'm much more
impressed by an actor that can convey pain and suffering with a simple
expression than one that can do it through the William Shatner technique.

I doubt greatly that any effeminate qualities his character had anything to
do with his not winning. But I will give you that dramatic roles are always
given more import than comedy roles.
