<<Hey guys....Let's get more than 7 people voting this round. Increase voter turnout & all that. Besides, the more voters there are, the more work for Matt. And getting some honest work out of Matt once in awhile is a good thing! >>
Thanks for the plea Larry, but I guess the you know the old saying: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink...."
Anyways, the sole reason for this Tournament is to get people talking about movies, and in this case some of the most popular movies of all time. If you have a comment about "The Treasure of the Sierre Madre," then I want to read about it! It may inspire me to seek out the movie and watch it. It doesn't really matter what film ends up on top, although I'm curious how it will all pan out.
Rory complained that it's like comparing apples to oranges. I told him to look at it this way: if you could only watch one film the rest of your life (or if you were stranded on a desert island and could only take one film, etc) and the choice was between the two films in each matchup, which would you take? His comment to me privately was "I would watch one on one day and the other next day." Now while that kind of love for movies is inspiring, it really adds nothing to a film discussion group. Oh well, I did get him to admit that he would pick "2001" over "King Kong."
So the bottom line is get out and vote! It's just for a fun discussion. If we only get 6 or 7 participants, then so be it. But I plan on doing this every month, so be warned.
