Haute Tension - 2003 (High Tension) SPOILERS
Wow, great thriller/horror flick from France. I REALLY liked it
except for that twist near the end. I really thought it was highly implausible
and also rather 'lame' as a twist ... double personality and whatnot,
sometimes this approach works, but here it was out of left field and seemed
like a huge setup (not to mention it doesn't fit with what we have seen before
in the film)
I was shaking in my boots for 90% of the film though, so I can't really
complain much about the last 10 minutes that didn't make any sense, pity it
didn't have a more 'straight forward' ending though ... that twist was
completely unnecessary, instead of making he film better a-la 'Sixth sense' for
example, it made it worse, too unbelievable.
Cecile De France stars as a young woman with issues (we learn more about them
later on in the last part though) She's going with a girlfriend to the
countryside where her family has a big farm house ... that's the only part of
the film that wasn't scary, right there on the first night a man shows up and
starts killing people off in gruesome ways, while Cecile is hiding and fighting
to stay alive ... not to mentioned her friend who is kidnapped by the psycho
Anyway, I give it a '4/5' ... if they hadn't tried to be too fancy, it would
have been 4.5/5, still basically Top 10 of the year material imho ... it
certainly was effective since I was looking at the screen in HORROR for a good
while ! Cheers !
"I hear the train a comin' - it's rollin' 'round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine - since I don't know when
I'm stuck in Folsom prison - and time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin' - on down to San Anton..."
"When I was just a baby - my mama told me, son
Always be a good boy - don't ever play with guns
But I shot a man in Reno - just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowin' - I hang my head and cry..."
