While "Star Wars" is getting lots of
attention this summer, the 2nd biggest blockbuster of the '70's is also holding
it's own. This is the 30th anniversary of "Jaws", the little fish story that
could. "Jaws" made a big impression on my childhood and in some ways it's still
my favorite movie.
For the 30th anniversary a new DVD is being
released ('natch!) on June 14. It will include a new documentary called "The
Shark Is Still Working" that is still being filmed as we speak. For this weekend
is "Jawsfest" at Martha's Vineyard, the place where the movie was filmed. The
island has been decorated as the fictional Amity, guests from the movie are
there meeting fans, even the mechanical shark is making the rounds. Basically,
it's an elaborate "Jaws" convention. Wish I was there! The festivities are being
filmed for the documentary. Guys like Spielberg and Roy Schieder aren't there
but author Peter Benchley and many others are (Benchley says Spielberg and
Dreyfuss are talking a new "Jaws").
