Alex is a big cat (8kg) so they think he just has a large heart. However,
his atrium enlargement was slightly over the normal range so he was
'suspected early HCM'. His second scan he was a mm or so less than the HCM range.
It seems it can be where they take the measurement, some areas of the
atrium can be thicker than others. As for Alex, he was admitted at the time
because he had gasping and breathing problems (very similar to asthma) and they
took a throat sample and found a bacterium which needed a special
He's fine now, he's been cautiously classified as large cat with large
heart for now.:)
I did have Trixi whose heart readings did decrease but she was diagnosed at
12 weeks and as she grew, the thickening became less, although she still
has serious HCM. She had a heart attack which actually destroyed some of the
hypertrophied tissue and that decreased her atrial readings.
