A few notes for the weary traveler.
000. May be.
[00. It has not been possible to construct this book on a basis of
pure skepticism. This matters less, as the practice leads to
skepticism, and it may be through it.]
0. This book is not intended to lead to the supreme attainment. On
the contrary, its results define the separate being of the Exempt
Adept from the rest of the Universe, and discover his relation to the
Universe. [Note: This book tells how to enquire "Who Am I?" & "What
is my relation with nature?"]
1. It is of such importance to the Exempt Adept, that We cannot
overrate it. Let him in no wise adventure the plunge into the Abyss
until he has accomplished this to his most perfect satisfaction.
[Note: One must destroy ones false notions about who and what one is
before one can find the truth of the matter. One must therefore
understand those false notions before giving them up. Unless this be
done perfectly, one will get the True mixed up with the remains of
2. For in the Abyss, no effort is anywise possible. The Abyss is
passed by virtue of the mass of the Adept and his karma. Two forces
impel him: (1) the attraction of Binah, (2) the impulse of his karma;
and the ease and even the safety of his passage depend on the
strength of the latter. [Note: One's life has hitherto been guided
by those false notions. Therefore on giving them up one has no
standard of control of thought or action; and until the truth is
born, one cane move only by virtue of one's momentum. It is jumping
3. Should one rashly dare the passage, and take the irrevocable Oath
of the Abyss, he might be lost therin through Aeons of incalculable
agony; he might even be thrown back upon Chesed with the terrible
karma of failure added to his original imperfection.
4. It is even said that in certain circumstances it is possible to
fall altogether from the Tree of Life, and to attain the Towers of
the Black Brothers. But we hold that this is not possible for any
adept that has truly attained his grade, or even for any man who has
really sought to help humanity even for a single second, and that
although his aspiration have been impure through vanity or any
5. Let then the Adept who finds the result of these meditations
unsatisfactory refuse the Oath of the Abyss, and live so that his
karma gains strength and direction suitable to the task at some
future period. [Note: Make the Adeptus Exemptus perfect as such
In the aforementioned context it might be difficult for the aspirant
to descry "what is meant" when Crowley refers to karma; an example
would be: the elements, the four "winds" of the human psyche, or
microcosm; which the aspirant must transcend to reach Adepthood.
Within the scheme of the Golden Dawn, this means the elemental sub-
grades of Adeptus-Minor. Having transcended form to reach the sphere
of Tiphareth, the Adept may set to work creating the Philosopher's
Stone. The means of which is demonstrated openly and without
reservation (as with western occultists) by Mantak Chia in his
books "Taoist Secrets of Love" & "The Multi-Orgasmic Man"; as Mr.
Chia puts it, "the orgasmic upward draw"
which brings the adept's
reservoir of energy (akashic-record/ magickal-memory) coursing up the
tree/chakras to settle & stir the brain, fermenting as it were, until
that hour Babalon (avatar of the world-soul) has her way with you.
Then, truly, ones magickal objectives become to raise Malkuth to the
throne of Binah; or to "redeem baphomet", turning darkness to light,
yada yada yada, woo woo woo.
One tiny hiccup though, as the Rosicrucians saw it; it isn't possible
to transcend past this phase without physically dying (insert ramble
of Osiris/Jesus mythos here). However supposedly the Aeon of Horus,
& the Thelemic trinity changed all that with the reception of Liber AL
"nor do I demand aught in sacrifice
" Liber AL I:58
For one kiss wilt thou then be willing to give all; but whoso gives
one particle of dust shall lose all in that hour
" Liber AL I:61
"Of the preservation of this blood which Our Lady offers to the
Ancient One, Chaos, the All-Father, to revive him, and of how his
divine Essence fills the Daughter (Soul of Man) and places her upon
the Throne of the Mother, fulfilling the economy of the universe and
thus ultimately rewarding the Magician (the Son)
[Note: Chaos is a
general name for the totality of the Units of Existence; it is thus a
name feminine in form. Each unit of Chaos is itself All-Father;

To me, the whole reveal & re-veil mystery that surrounds the Occult
is not at all as mysterious as it's made out to be. I believe it
should be clearly understood that the entire purpose for undergoing
the rigors of Lodge-work to attain Adepthood, is to refine & purify
the ego (elements/winds of the psyche) so that the Philosopher's
Stone may not be tainted (the aspirant becoming a "black-brother" &
slave to every whim & fancy his troubled mind can conceive) before it
is administered by Babalon to Aatik Kadosh.
P.S. I can appreciate the safe-guards & fear tactics the so-called
enlightened occult community uses to keep the eager aspirant
from "fucking-up"; I think its time a different method is adhered to;
like the elitist minority, helping us lowly pee-ons make informed
decisions. As I've observed, and I can't stress this enough: dark &
light is still a matter of opinion!
P.P.S. Fall asleep on my couch? I think not!
