Perspectives Charter Schools (PCS) is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an outstanding opportunity to play an integral leadership role in public education reform in Chicago, IL.
Founded in 1993 by two young public school teachers as a small 45-student "school within a school," PCS has nearly 1700 students today spread across five campuses. Full enrollment of 2500 students is expected by the 2011-12 school year. PCS ranks in the top 25% in Chicago among non-selective public schools for retaining freshmen through their senior year. More than 90 percent of students in its five senior classes have graduated and all of those students have been accepted to college. As a result, PCS has earned a national reputation as a model of how a small school with innovative, effective education can transform urban schooling.
PCS strives to provide students with a rigorous and relevant education. Imbedded in this mission is a unique curriculum, A Disciplined Life©, designed to prepare students for life in a changing and competitive world and to help them further to become intellectually reflective, compassionate and ethical people engaged in a meaningful life. In conjunction with a Board of Directors, the CEO will implement this mission, manage its long- and short-term implementation, and sustain a network of schools with aligned instruction, culture, business, operations and governance. The CEO will be accountable for and will have ultimate administrative, managerial, and operational authority over the central offices and campuses. S/he will have to integrate educational priorities with operational realities. Specifically, the CEO will need to focus on the following challenges and opportunities: resource development, student outcomes, updating facilities and growth.
