Well, this post sure was a keeper for me! You almost have to print out everything to read it. Some new numbers to play with including Darwin's guess of Eckankar's net worth as of 10/14/89 (16 years after his marriage to Gail:>) to be somewhere between $25 million to $50 million. I'll still stand by my $30 million plus estimate.
I was working for Redmond Products in Chanhassen then in 1989 until 1997 before I was fired the Monday after Princess Di died that Saturday in Paris in that famous carwreck with Dodi Al Fayed. The day before, Friday, I managed to tip over a large metal container of new shampoo called "It's All Over" while carrying it & rounding a corner with my trusty stand-up forklift.
That night after the Friday Hu at the Temple, I then had dinner with Dodi Al Fayed's ex-girlfriend & her sister, Rose who now lives in England. After the next day tragedy of the couple's death, Dodi's ex-girlfriend told me she had left Dodi after living with him for 2 years during the "Chariot of Fire" years in 1981-82 when he was the executive producer for the Academy Award winning movie because of his extensive drug use! Dodi never did give that stuff up, she still claims. Peyote, anyone?
Tom Redmond,Sr., who was also a childhood neighbor of one my oldest pre-Eckankar friends, then a couple months later sold his company to Bristol-Meyers for $200 million which was paid by mostly Bristol-Meyers stock. I do know Tom Sr. later doubled his money before selling at Bristol-Meyers market's peak prices in 1999/2000...while I just collected my measly unemployment benefit from them:>)
Tom Redmond, Sr. had hired a former P&G (Procter & Gamble) man as CEO to get the Chanhassen shampoo company up to speed before selling. In an ironic karma twist, I was taking a piss when the then new President of the company came in the bathroom, too. I asked him if he knew my father who worked for P&G for 34 years before retiring in 1981? He ejaculated that he knew Dad quite well & my father used to stay in his house when he came to Cincinnati for P&G HQ's business! Apparently, Dad was his one of his early mentors in P&G!
As for Darwin's synopsis of what happened over the years by 1989 - what can I say? Seems to me to be sour grapes material. But I'm sure that in here in Eckankartruth we will continue to hear about his tarnished reality, too. Personally, I think Dap Ren was a good teacher for awhile who met his match & still can't believe it! later, lee
