review the proceedings of the Michaelstein flute symposium of 2006,
recently published (in equal parts of English and German) as

The 382-page book contains essays by Tilman Seebass, Rob Van Acht,
Enrico Weller, Tom Lerch, Susan Berdahl, Peter Thalheimer, Danielle
Eden, Mary Oleskiewicz, Boaz Berney, Philippe Allain-Dupré, and yours
truly, just to give those names that might be most recognizable on
this list. Topics range from computer tomography and fluid-dynamics
studies, through conventional historical studies, to textual
scholarship, sociology, and medieval iconography.
If you read this list, as well as both English and German, did not
participate in the meeting, would like a free copy of this
well-produced and -illustrated volume, and would be willing to write a
2500-word evaluation of it in fairly short order, please email me off
