A fine book indeed; fiction based on fact, as I recall ? Just a bit of trivia – but I can add that the Mr Neish mentioned several times throughout Witch’s Blood is, in fact, my old Uncle Thomas Neish remembered in Dundee History as ‘The Father of Jute’. He was the first to import the fibre and introduce it into the textile industry.
a long shot, but worth a try !! I was at school - DHS - with a Peter Blain, who lived in Nesbit Street, over the fence from the DHS rugger fields, fronting on to the Arbroath Road. This Peter Blain's Father wrote a well respected book on old Dundee, entitled "Witches Blood".
Any connectiob ?

I don't - I do remember, though, a very excellent chip shop in the Overgate, where we bought pudding suppers on the way back to the High School from choir practice for the Christmas concert in St Mary's!

I've never hear of "Busters"The problem with the taste of anything from MOST fish and chip shops nowadays, is the deep-frying in anything but lard. However unhealthy, that was the best taste, whether you bought from The Deep Sea in the Nethergate or from the West End, King Street, Broughty Ferry.Does anyone remember "Polie Joe" who rant The Malta, at the corner of King Street and Grey Street? He used to repair cycles and radios but never smiled.
