the Jungle Wednesday night and picked up a flyer for this group. For
everyones information, a really great site for drive ins is
and the direct link for the Jungle is
You can search by state for
drive ins and they even have cool things to buy related to drive ins.
I remember visiting all the drive ins in the area when I was a kid. My
dad took my mom and I to all of them. Belpre, Riverside, Starlite,
Sundowner and the Jungle of course. Good times! I have taken my kids
to the Jungle twice this year. I'm kinda torn between wishing they had
more kid movies to wishing they had more adult movies. lol Oh well!
Now for something that all of you will think I've lost my mind
I was wanting to confirm my suspicions about something that happened
when I was a kid at the Sundowner drive in on south side back in the
mid 70's-early 80's. It was a hot summer night and while we were at
the Sundowner, a UFO came hovering over the field where the Dugout
softball field and Perry's Aligment is now. YES, a UFO! The people at
the drive in came over the speakers and told everyone to get back in
their cars and they were calling the sheriff. It was huge and hovered
for about 2 or 3 minutes over the field. It vanished in a blink of an
eye into the night sky. It has never left my mind and I used to ask my
dad if that was a UFO every now and then he would always tell me he
thought it was too. I can't ask him anymore since he passed away in
2000. He always swore he thought it was and my mom doesn't remember.
lol I still tell everyone I believe in UFO's and have seen one before
because my dad seemed to think it was too. I would love to talk to
anyone that may have been there that night or knew someone that told
them about that night. I know I'm asking for a miracle here but I'd
just like to know for sure. Thanks for letting me join and will be
keeping in touch. bye!

Hello Ted, welcome to the club. I live in Parkersburg as well. I was not there the night you are talking about, but do remember hearing something about it. I'm there is life somewhere else out there. It is too hard for me to believe that we are the only planet in the vast universe with life. I remember going to those drive-ins too. Sad that only the Jungle is left. They still have the screen up at the Sundowner, but it is a flee market as you know. It had the best sound didn't it? Came across on your radio remember? I believe that Drive Ins will make a come back. I have been saying that for years, then in June I was up In MI and by the Silver Dome where the Detroit Lions play there was a newer 3 screen Drive-IN called the Silver Dome Drive IN. Blew my mind,(little as it is lol).
I joined the club myself back in May. Found out about it the same way you did. There is just something about a Drive-IN movie. Takes back to my childhood I guess, even with the lousy sound like the Jungle I still enjoy going, and the concessions are cheap, Ticket price not so, but 2 for 1 it still pretty good. Anyway enjoy the club. I look forward to chatting with you and all others again.
