I had to leave my McElroy keys in Texas. I ran out of room and weight limits.
But, I will have my 1920 and 1936 Juniors and my 1955 Blue Racer Deluxe on. I am still working on make
a new dot spring contact assembly. I did turn the part I need to make watchmakers lathe headstock to
be solid. Now, for it, I need to get or make a counter shaft for better turning.
So much work here lately, I have not finished the 1912 Original yet. I have a Zephyr in Texas now, hoping
it will soon arrive down here.
I am working on the basket case HF2V vertical now and who knows, I might have a respectable signal on
40 & 80 metres soon.
Happy New Year, Joe.

The high traffic level telegraphy had reached toward the end of the 1800's necessitated the invention of mechanical speed keys including the Sideswiper (1880's I think) and the bugs (the original Vibroplex in 1904). Any and all mechanical keys fall into the New Year's Eve, night of nostalgia. Many old bugs will be heard tonight with a concentration of them around 7.025 and 3.525 +/- 5 khz. Some rarely heard species to be on the lookout for include: McElroy (world's greatest telegrapher according to him) bugs from the thirties, Dow keys, Les Logans, Australian Simplex Autos (a right-angle bug using a release mechanism), and various Vibroplex species including the Original, the Double Lever, the X key, the Blue Racers (early ones were really blue), the Junior, the #6 or Lightning, the WW II J-36, the Zephyr, and the Champion. If you hear a Vertical, or a Midget (only a handful known to exist) you will have REALLY lucked out! It's all about fun, comradery, and nostalgia. See you on the bands.73, Fred - KT5X1936 McElroy:
